What is Eyelid Aesthetics?

Since the eyelids are always visible areas on the human face, changes in this area attract attention at an early stage. Changes in this area may depend on age, but also on the person's lifestyle, hormonal changes, lack of sleep, sun exposure and structural factors.

The most common pathology in the lower eyelid appears as bagging. In older ages, this bagging is accompanied by loosening of the eyelid skin. This bagging in the lower eyelid is caused by the oil around the eye sliding outwards. In its treatment, this fat mass is partially shaved or used to fill the hollow around the eye, and some excess skin can be removed by measurement.

Disorders That May Occur in the Eyelids

The most common disorder in the upper eyelid is skin sagging in the upper eyelid and fat bags, although not as much as in the lower eyelid. The causes of these disorders are similar to those in the lower eyelid. Before performing correction surgery, any drooping eyebrows that may have occurred should be distinguished. Skin sagging and fat bagging are corrected by taking valve functions into consideration. Bruising and swelling around the eyes are expected after these surgeries. Generally, these changes disappear within a week. Lower and upper eyelid surgeries can be performed under local (regional) anesthesia. In this case, keeping the patient in the hospital for a few hours is sufficient. Unless there is a complication after this surgery, eye movements, visual function and tear production are not affected. Face lift surgery is a frequently performed surgery along with eyelid aesthetics, and these two surgeries are generally complementary to each other.
